The significant changes witnessed by solid waste professionals in the past few years are only the first steps toward the ultimate shape of the industry, according to a new report from Franklin Associates, Ltd., Prairie Village, Kan. Its report, "Solid Waste Management at the Crossroads," describes a public sector that is working to improve its cost-effectiveness and to divert more wastes from landfills, and a private sector with emerging new companies and with existing companies that are downsizing and re-organizing.
